Appendix A
The Raw Form
Pastor Biddison mentions in his introduction that he went over the content of these devotions almost every day for years — in a shorter form, because he did not have to explain to himself what he meant. This is that form.
Week 01
“And He was saying to them all, ‘If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow me.’” (Luke 9:23)
Week 02
Pastor Biddison's raw form adds nothing for this week.
Week 03
Pastor Biddison's raw form adds nothing for this week.
Week 04
“No good things does He withhold from those who walk uprightly” (Psalm 84:11)
I must remind myself today of who is lying to me, God or Satan.
Week 05
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.” (Psalm 139:23–24)
I will acknowledge and repent of my sins, shortcomings, and mistakes but not stew in them.
I think I have bypassed this item too often or passed over it too quickly, not allowing the Lord to really search out my heart and reveal things to me. I need to consider this first.
Week 06
I. Today I will exalt Christ and not myself.
1. He must increase, I must decrease.
2. Exalting Christ in my life is to thoroughly trust Him.
3. This means that He is everything to me, thus I can trust Him; I must trust Him.
4. Hebrews 11:6 — “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”
5. I must learn to trust Him; I must grow in my walk of faith to truly exalt Christ to His rightful position in my life.
6. It is almost a mockery for me to try to walk in a way pleasing to Him if I do not trust Him with every part of my life.
Week 07
II. I will start the day by consciously abiding in Christ.
1. Abiding in Christ means that as a branch of the vine I’m NOT trying to get my comfort, joy, fulfillment, power anywhere else.
2. Galatians 2:20.
Week 08
II. I will start the day by consciously abiding in Christ.
3. Die to self — the first part of the “exchanged life” is me on the cross.
4. Colossians 3:3 — “For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”
5. A precious truth found in the Scriptures. A done deal. But, as with many Scriptural truths, I must enter into the good of it through faith.
6. The first part of the “exchanged life”, then, is me on the cross by faith, my death to self.
III. Several things help me to die to self in a practical way. Things that are reminders to live as though I were dead.
1. Humble myself before God and man. I consider all others as more important than I am (Philippians 2:3).
Week 09
III. Several things help me to die to self in a practical way. Things that are reminders to live as though I were dead.
2. Dead men have no rights.
Week 10
III. Several things help me to die to self in a practical way. Things that are reminders to live as though I were dead.
3. Dead men have no need to defend themselves.
Week 11
III. Several things help me to die to self in a practical way. Things that are reminders to live as though I were dead.
4. Dead men do not react to their circumstances.
Week 12
III. Several things help me to die to self in a practical way. Things that are reminders to live as though I were dead.
5. Dead men do not feel the compulsion to prove they are right.
7. Dead men do not try to please themselves.
Week 13
III. Several things help me to die to self in a practical way. Things that are reminders to live as though I were dead.
6. Dead men can have no personal agenda — their opinion doesn’t have to be followed or even acknowledged.
Week 14
III. Several things help me to die to self in a practical way. Things that are reminders to live as though I were dead.
8. Dead men cannot feel sorry for themselves.
9. Dead men do not crave recognition, support, or respect.
10. Dead men do not fret when they are attacked by others.
Week 15
III. Several things help me to die to self in a practical way. Things that are reminders to live as though I were dead.
11. Dead men harbor no resentment or bitterness.
In summary, I need to fully realize that I AM NOTHING. HE IS ALL!
Week 16
IV. I need to keep my hands open to the Lord.
1. “God take what you want to out of my life.”
2. “God put into my life that which pleases you.”
3. “Lord, if it is something precious to me that you take, or something hard for me that you put into my life, I ask you do it with much grace.”
Week 17
V. Christ on the throne of my life. The second part of the “exchanged life” is that “Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20).
1. That means that I acknowledge God’s right to control my life.
Week 18
V. Christ on the throne of my life. The second part of the “exchanged life” is that “Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20).
2. He is the King, I am the subject. This relationship shows He is powerful and He has sovereign control over all things in my life (and everything else). He makes the decisions that govern my life, and He controls the circumstances. My job is to obey my King and totally fit into His plans.
Week 19
V. Christ on the throne of my life. The second part of the “exchanged life” is that “Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20).
3. He is the Master, I am the slave. This relationship means I have no life of my own — no schedule of my own. My job is to obey my master whether I feel like it or not.
Week 20
V. Christ on the throne of my life. The second part of the “exchanged life” is that “Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20).
4. He’s the potter, I’m the clay. He can mold me and make me into whatever kind of vessel that pleases Him. I do not decide what kind of a vessel I will be.
Week 21
V. Christ on the throne of my life. The second part of the “exchanged life” is that “Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20).
5. He is the Father, I am the son. This relationship shows intimacy. The Father operates a family business in which I, His son, have a responsibility. The part I have in this is to ask the Father for that which is needed for the family business, but my main responsibility is to obey my Father as He directs.
6. He is totally in charge of every part of my life.
Week 22
VI. Finally, abiding in Christ means walking in the fullness of His grace this day.
1. The grace walk is a walk of dependence on Christ for everything and recognizing my position before Him.
2. This means that I realize that I am in a true position of favor with the Lord. He cares about everything that touches my life (1 Peter 5:7): “Casting all your care on Him for He cares for you.”
3. Grace also means that there is a clear sense of God’s presence in my life when I go through tough times. (That is what I am asking for when I pray for grace for those going through rough times.)
4. I am appalled today as I hear so many preachers and Christian books who preach a type of grace that borders on license.
5. Walking in grace is done by living today relating to God only based on who I am in Christ.
6. Not based on how good I’ve been, though of course I must be in fellowship with Him.
7. His grace is like living in a spiritual bubble, where one can live who God favors, and I stay in that bubble all day. This “bubble” gives me total protection.
8. I must realize that this is a position of favor — I am beloved of God.
9. I am completely safe from anything that God does not want to come my way.
10. Even Satan cannot touch me without God’s permission.
11. I can rest in peace in this position of favor with God. ABIDING IN CHRIST IS A SPIRITUAL REST.
Week 23
VI. Finally, abiding in Christ means walking in the fullness of His grace this day.
12. Romans 8:28 talks about this safe place. (And we know that all things work together for good to those that love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.)
13. I need to commit myself each day to maintaining this special position of GRACE.
Week 24
Pastor Biddison's raw form adds nothing for this week.
Week 25
Pastor Biddison's raw form adds nothing for this week.
Week 26
VI. Finally, abiding in Christ means walking in the fullness of His grace this day.
14. Walking in grace means that God is constantly giving me the desire and the power to do what pleases Him (Philippians 2:13).
15. When that desire and/or power is lacking, I need to check to see if I have gotten out of that dependent walk.
Week 27
VI. Finally, abiding in Christ means walking in the fullness of His grace this day.
16. Walking in grace is a “faith walk.” I clearly need to learn to walk in faith. There is no way to please God unless I truly learn to walk in faith.
Week 28
VI. Finally, abiding in Christ means walking in the fullness of His grace this day.
17. Don’t go to prayer without a heart of recognition of who He is and who I am in Christ.
18. Entrance into the most Holy Place (Hebrews 10:19–22). I quote it each morning.
19. The Holiest Place in the Universe.
20. The Heavenly Place where I meet with God, and He hears everything on my heart.
Week 29
VI. Finally, abiding in Christ means walking in the fullness of His grace this day.
21. The Throne Room of Grace.
22. His grace is always sufficient. When it appears not to be so, I need to ask the question: who is lying, God or the devil?
Week 30
VII. I will remind myself that there will be times today that my “spontaneous reaction” would not be Christ-like and that I can yield to Him even during those times and exhibit Christlikeness.
1. “Lord, make me aware of each of those times so I can submit it to you.”
Week 31
VII. I will remind myself that there will be times today that my “spontaneous reaction” would not be Christ-like and that I can yield to Him even during those times and exhibit Christlikeness.
VIII. I will be aware of God’s special love gifts to me today.
